July 21, 2025–a day to remember when UFOs visited Southridge! The July program of the HR Historical Society was very well attended by an enthusiastic group of UFO fans and friends and the just plain curious! Speaker Dr. Peter Van Arsdale kept the audience engaged from start to finish with his reporting on UFOs over the years in the US. With his extensive experience in many fields related to this topic, and his many contacts who have had personal experience, the presentation was lively and non-biased. After the program, many in the audience voiced their appreciation of this factual approach to a subject that has drawn polarized opinions over the years.

Slide one shows the Devils Tower, this reminds Dr. Van Arsdale of the movie “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” which was a phrase coined by Astronomer J. Allen Heineck, a member of Project Blue Book. The Movie by the same name featured the Devils Tower.
Dr. Van Arsdale then reminds the audience of many historical events (real and perhaps not so much) involving UFOs, including Flying Saucers; “War of the Worlds” the book, radio program and then movie. The Book was written by HG Wells in 1898. It was a tale of human extraterrestrial conflict, earthlings and Martians.
Also discussed — the movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, the Roswell NM newspaper headlines about the capture of a flying saucer in Roswell, and even the fun that Roswell has today about the incident.
Dr. Van Arsdale displays his NM license plate “FLY UFO” and ends with a discussion of his book “Encounters.
As he stated “we have to listen, even if we’re skeptical”. So keep an open mind and a watchful eye to all things UFO.
