Shirley Cavanaugh

Shirley Cavanaugh, Publicity Chair, moved to Colorado and Highlands Ranch in May 2019 from Kaneohe (island of Oahu), Hawaii. Shirley was born on Oahu but grew up on Maui. She received a bachelor’s degree in secondary speech education from Washington State University. After two years of teaching high school in Tacoma, she joined the U.S. Air Force. While on active duty, she received a master’s degree in communications from the University of Northern Colorado. Her assignments included serving in Japan, Thailand and South Korea. Her last assignment was as Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Air Force Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs. She retired as a lieutenant colonel after serving 23 years. Shirley then worked in public relations, as a college lecturer, and for the State of Hawaii, where her positions included Communications Director for the President, Hawaii State Senate, and speechwriter for the President, University of Hawaii.
