DISASTERS IN HISTORY: The South Platte River Flood of 1965

69 minute video of February 2022 Program
December 2021 Colorado Marshall Fire was devastating!  However, it was not without precedent.   In October 1871 a massive weather system powered catastrophic fires  in the drought-stricken Midwest.  Most people have heard of the Chicago Fire, but fewer are familiar with the Peshtigo Fire that occurred during those same days.  There were other fires too.   This presentation will explain what happened in October 1871 before, during, and after the fire, and provide connections to the Marshall Fire of  December 2021.  Also covered, practical prevention and preparation measures for all.  Presented by Einar Jensen, Risk Reduction Specialist with South Metro Fire Rescue, a fire service specialist for 24 years.   Presented via Zoom for the Highlands Ranch Historical Society Meeting on January 17,  2022.
This is the recorded Zoom program. Please forgive the technical glitch with the video at 0:25-0:45.
