SUMMARY:Program: Elitch Gardens--Past\, Present\, and Future
DESCRIPTION:This is a LIVE program at Southridge Recreation Center\, doors open at 6:30 pm.  $3 Donation suggested for non-members\, no charge for HRHS Members. Welcome back to this In-Person Program\, come early\, have a cookie\, visit with friends!   Registration Required. \n(It is our intent to have this program at Southridge. If things change\,  an alert will be posted here with a Zoom link.) \n \nFrom the Gracious Lady of the Gardens to making way for the new River Mile\, it’s more than a hundred years of Elitch history! \n \nThis PowerPoint presentation will examine the history of Denver’s most famous amusement park.  Conceived as a quiet and beautiful retreat by the wife and as a successful theater by the husband\, the park prospered in accordance with both their visions.  Over time\, aspects of the park’s spirit were changed as new hands claimed it. \nIn the modern era\, many things were lost within the park\, even before its move to downtown Denver.  We’ll examine the history through pictures and stories\, covering the modern day as well as the grand plans for Elitch’s Part 3.  For lovers of the original and newbies to Colorado alike\, the story of Elitch’s connects to many fine pieces of Colorado’s history. \n \nKevin Snow was a military brat who grew up nowhere\, eventually leaving the crazy train behind in Colorado.  After years of teaching English as a Second Language\, on three continents\, Kevin turned his love for Colorado history into a career.  Now seventeen years into it\, Kevin leads tours all over the state and region. \nIn 2019\, he led his first international tours and hopes to resume them in the post-pandemic future.  Kevin is always happy to explore history with folks\, always learning the great stories of our state.  So\, bring your questions and your curiosity\, Kevin will see if he may tackle them all! \n \nMonday\, March 21\, 2022 – 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm\nSouthridge Recreation Center 4800 McArthur Ranch Rd.  Upstairs Auditorium\n$3 Suggested Donation for non-HRHS members at Door\n\n\n \n
